PM-SE Integration Working Group - Harmonizing Systems Integration and Program Management

As organizations pursue digital transformation and adopt new technologies to remain competitive, program and project managers, systems engineers, and suppliers are all critical to success, alongside a co-created program management and implementation plan. In complex project and program environments, successful delivery depends on strong collaboration between program managers and systems engineers. However, these disciplines often work with different terminology, priorities, processes, and measures of success. This can lead to unclear roles, misalignment, communication gaps, rework, delays, and weaker program outcomes. This session will provide an overview of the PM-SE integration initiative jointly led by INCOSE PE-SE Working Group, PMI Washington DC chapter, and DSM, and explore the System Architecture Integration Lab (SAIL) approach to successfully integrating DSM within your organization’s technology ecosystem in support of the PM-SE integration.

EMPOWERING SYSTEMS ENGINEERS AND PROJECT MANAGERS: UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL  OF DESIGN STRUCTURE MATRICES

The disciplines of Program Management and Systems Engineering are inherently intertwined. When there is tension and confusion over the roles of program managers versus systems engineers, programs suffer from deadline overruns and failures. This webinar will discuss tools that help enable effective collaborations between PMs and SEs, such as Product Breakdown Structures/Work Breakdown Structures that help provide a common and consistent view all along the project life cycle from a Project Management point of view as well as from a System Engineering point of view. This webinar will introduce Design Structure Matrices (DSM), including covering what is a DSM and how it can be used. The webinar will conclude with a discussion of whether DSM can be a tool to help empower systems engineers and project managers to more effectively collaborate and mitigate tension between the disciplines.

SPEAKERS: Tina Srivastava, Bernardo Delicado, Mike Stowe, Mark Kaufman, and John Metcalf
